Wild Win In OT
After squandering a 3-0 lead, the Wild earned a 5-4 win over Dallas on Marco Scandella's fifth goal of the season.

DALLAS -- Thomas Vanek isn't sure how Minnesota keeps blowing three-goal leads. He's just happy to try to explain it after a win.
Marco Scandella scored the winning goal 2:04 into overtime, after Vanek pulled the Wild even late in regulation, and they beat Dallas 5-4 on Friday night, handing the Stars their eighth straight OT loss at home.
The Wild have twice failed to protect 3-0 leads in the third period this season, losing to the New York Rangers 5-4 on Oct. 27 and beating Winnipeg 4-3 in overtime earlier this month.
"I don't know what is," said Vanek, who assisted on the first Minnesota goal and Scandella's winner. "I don't think we change our game, but I think it's something that we have to be smarter."
This time the lead vanished in the last 4 minutes of the second period. Ales Hemsky started the Dallas scoring with his first goal in his 22nd game with the Stars since signing a 3-year, $12 million contract in the summer.
About a minute and a half later, Tyler Seguin got his NHL-leading 18th goal on a shot that was stopped by Darcy Kuemper before the puck slid past the goalie. Erik Cole beat Kuemper from the top of the left circle with 11 seconds left in the period to make it 3-3.
The flurry of goals from the Stars came two nights after Kuemper was pulled after giving up four goals in the first period of a 4-0 loss to Los Angeles. He had 41 saves on a season-high 45 shots by Dallas.
Alex Goligoski put the Stars ahead 4-3 by beating Kuemper over the top of his glove off a pass from Seguin with 6:31 remaining.
Vanek's tying goal came with 1:52 left in regulation from the right circle on assists from Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, who had three assists.
"We battled for a point, which is awesome," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "There's a lot of good in the game, but we seem to throw something really bitter in there to make it hard for me to stand here and tell you I like most parts of our game."
Minnesota improved to 6-0 against Central Division teams, and Dallas remained winless at 0-6-2 in the division.
The Stars came up short in what would have been their biggest comeback since rallying from 3-0 to beat Chicago 4-3 in a shootout on Feb. 11, 2011, according to STATS.
"They got chances, but we weren't flustered when they scored goals," Scandella said. "We came back. We settled things down and we came back to win."
Dallas lost the finale of a five-game homestand after winning three straight to answer a seven-game losing skid on home ice that was the longest in franchise history.
"Story of season so far," Goligoski said. "It's not like we have one or two lines going and the other two aren't. Seems like it's all or nothing."
Nino Niederreiter got his seventh goal in eight games and team-leading 11th of the season to start the scoring for Minnesota.
Jason Zucker poked in a rebound off Kari Lehtonen's pad on a shot by Nate Prosser for a 2-0 Minnesota lead in the first. Mikael Grandlund made it 3-0 midway through the second when he beat Lehtonen on Jason Pominville's feed.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers were finally able to beat former goalie Craig Anderson.
Jimmy Hayes scored the winning goal to lift the Panthers over the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Friday night.
Sean Bergenheim and Dylan Olsen also scored for the Panthers, and Vincent Trocheck had two assists. Al Montoya made 22 saves in his fourth start of the season. No. 1 goalie Roberto Luongo missed the game because of a lower-body injury sustained Wednesday against Carolina.
The Panthers had a season-high 46 shots and won their second in a row at home.
Anderson, who spent 2006-09 with the Panthers, stopped 43 shots. He came into the game 11-2-1 against the Panthers, including a shutout in their last meeting on Oct. 13. He was especially sharp in the second period when he turned away 16 shots, many of them quality chances.
"It was extremely frustrating. We had point-blank shots on breakaways," said Trocheck, who assisted on the winning goal. "Anderson played great, but luckily we were able to come out on top."
Cody Ceci scored a goal, and Chris Neil had a goal and an assist for Ottawa.
After struggling to get anything past Anderson for most of the game, the Panthers scored two goals in the third to take a 3-2 lead.
Trocheck passed from the bottom of the left circle to Hayes, who skated in on the right side. His wrist shot beat Anderson at 7:31 to make it 3-2.
The Panthers had gotten even just 34 seconds into the third. Bergenheim's shot from the left circle went over Anderson's right shoulder and in off the post.
Anderson was frustrated that his stellar effort was wasted.
"I feel pretty embarrassed right now after that effort that we put out there," Anderson said. "Mentally, we played a team that wasn't in the playoffs and maybe that was our mindset that we should beat them because of that, but we didn't work for it."
Ottawa took a 2-1 lead in the second on Ceci's goal. Neil's shot was blocked but the rebound came out to Ceci in the right circle. He put the puck behind Montoya at 2:41.
The Senators had only four shots in the third period.
"You can't ask your goalie to bail you out every game," Neil said. "(The Panthers) had way too many odd-man rushes. We just weren't on the same page. It was just a brutal game by us."
Montoya played well for the Panthers but the Senators didn't press him late.
"They weren't shooting the puck much," Montoya said. "This is one we wanted to have and we deserved to have."
The Senators went ahead 1-0 on Neil's goal. Eric Condra passed from the right circle across to Neil in front. Neil slapped the puck past Montoya on the glove side at 5:04 of the first period.
The Panthers tied it 47 seconds later. Dylan Olsen took a pass from Trocheck in the high slot, and his wrist shot slid under Anderson's pads for his first goal of the season.
"He (Anderson) was outstanding," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. "We worked hard and kept pushing and pushing, and finally a couple pucks got by him. It was probably our best offensive game."

Game notes

Ottawa played its third of five games on the road... Panthers LW Shawn Thornton took a puck to the face and left the game late in the second period but returned in the third. ... Florida RW Scottie Upshall was placed on the injured list because of a lower-body injury. ... Dan Ellis was recalled by Florida from AHL San Antonio on Thursday to back up Montoya.

St. Louis Notches 1,000th Point
Martin St. Louis reached 1,000 career points with a goal and an assist in the Rangers' 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

PHILADELPHIA -- Martin St. Louis wasn't even drafted as a young player. Now, he's in elite company that includes Wayne Gretzky.
The 12-time All-Star reached 1,000 career points with a goal and added an assist, Cam Talbot made 26 saves and the New York Rangers beat the slumping Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 Friday.
St. Louis became the sixth undrafted player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points. Gretzky tops that list with 2,857. Adam Oates (1,079), Peter Stastny (1,239), Dino Ciccarelli (1,200) and Joe Mullen (1,063) are the others.
"I owe it a lot to the people who believed in me and the players I played with," he said."It's a great accomplishment. I'm not going to hide my feelings. I'm proud of that. Doing it in a win, on a goal, it makes it special."
Rick Nash and Dan Boyle also scored for the Rangers (10-8-4), who shut out the Flyers for the second time in nine days. Derek Stepan assisted all three goals.
"We were able to get some timely goals and when we didn't have a breakdown, we had some big blocked shots or big saves from our goalie," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said.
Philadelphia (8-11-3) dropped to 1-6-1 in its last eight games while getting blanked for the third time in its last six. Boos rained down on the Flyers during the third period.
"This is a better team than we're playing right now and that our record is showing," Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said. "We have to get going, no doubt about it. I'm not happy with our record and our overall performance."
Hextall said he didn't expect any imminent major shakeups.
"We have a pretty good hockey team out there," he said. "I haven't lost any faith in this team, but we're not happy, either."
The Flyers held a players' only meeting after Wednesday's 5-2 loss at Detroit but responded with a similar result. The Rangers had skated to a 2-0 win over the Flyers on Nov. 19. The teams will play in New York on Saturday.
Boyle's slap shot from the point on the power play gave New York a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into the game. Nash set a screen in front of goalie Steve Mason, who appeared not to see the puck before it zoomed past his stick side high into the net. It was the 20th power-play goal allowed this season by Philadelphia, which entered last in the league on the penalty kill (72.9 percent).
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead 4:04 into the second period when St. Louis scored on a rebound for the 1,000th point of his career.
"That's a lot of points," Vigneault said. "He's been a great example throughout his career, and all of his teammates are really happy for him."
Nash, who entered second in the NHL in goals scored, tallied his 16th of the season by finishing a 3-on-1 short-handed break 5:30 into the third.
Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh, who was returning from a separated left shoulder that had sidelined him since Nov. 1, had an assist on the goal. McDonagh skated up the center of the ice and passed left to Stepan, who fired across to a wide-open Nash just outside of the crease.
Talbot, in his sixth game filling in for starter Henrik Lundqvist, beat the Flyers for the second time this season. Talbot stopped 31 shots in the Nov. 19 win over Philadelphia.
"It was more of a big team effort," Talbot said. "I was back there but a lot shots were from the outside, and the guys did a great job of boxing out and pretty much letting me see every puck."
Philadelphia coach Craig Berube didn't fault the effort but said the Flyers need to play with more composure and less frustration.
"You become frustrated and lose your composure when you stop playing like a team on the ice," Berube said. "That doesn't mean this is not a good team or a team that wants to stick together. Right now they're a little bit lost that way. To get that composure back and get that frustration out of your game you need to go out (Saturday) and play like a team for 60 minutes no matter what."

Game notes

A moment of silence was held prior to the game for former Flyers coach Pat Quinn, who died Sunday at the age of 71. . Philadelphia C Chris VandeVelde (lower body) missed his fourth straight game.
