The Iowa Barnstormers
will no longer operate as an Arena Football League franchise, the
League Office announced today. Given the manner in which the AFL has
evolved, the Barnstormers have decided not to remain an active member.
“We wish the Iowa Barnstormers
all the best in their new endeavor,” AFL Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz
said. “Their organization has been a part of the rich history of Arena
Football for years now and will always be thought of fondly by those who
love our sport.”
Players
under AFL contracts assigned to the Barnstormers will be under no
obligation to remain with the Iowa franchise. Since Iowa is no longer an
active member of the AFL, those player contracts shall continue as
League contracts and those players will be assigned to a different club
moving forward.
