CHICAGO -- Despite losses in Week 12, the San Jose Sabercats (11-1) and Philadelphia Soul (10-2) remain in the top two spots of the AFL Power Rankings for the fourth consecutive week.
San Jose suffered their first loss of the season in possibly the biggest upset in AFL history last week, falling to the LA KISS (2-9), 42-48, in overtime. The defeat halted San Jose's 11-game winning streak, the second-longest streak to start a season in franchise history. The Pacific Division champions remain a game-and-a-half up on the Arizona Rattlers (9-2) for the top seed in the National Conference playoff standings with eight weeks to play. The SaberCats travel to Las Vegas this Sunday for a matchup with the 4-7 Outlaws. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
A combined five touchdowns from Orlando Predators (7-5) quarterback Bernard Morris proved too much for the No. 2-ranked Philadelphia Soul (10-2) in Week 12, as they lost their first game to the Predators since 2011, 42-45. Even in a losing effort, quarterback Dan Raudabaugh and wide receiver Marco Thomas continued their bids for postseason award consideration, hooking up 13 times for 138 yards and four scores in the game. The American Conference-leading Soul travel to Anaheim on Saturday for an 11:00 p.m. ET matchup with the LA KISS on ESPN2.
The No. 3-ranked Arizona Rattlers continued to inch towards the top in the latest AFL Power Rankings following a 69-42 road win over the Portland Thunder (3-8) in Week 12. J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Year candidate AJ Cruz starred in all facets of the game, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns and scoring on a run and reception to help propel the three-time defending champs to victory. The Rattlers take center stage on CBS Sports Network Saturday night against the fifth-ranked Orlando Predators in a battle of division leaders. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
Jumping up two spots to No. 4 in this week's AFL Power Rankings are the Cleveland Gladiators (7-5), who handed the New Orleans VooDoo (2-10) a 51-34 loss in Week 12. The Gladiators, currently positioned in the three-seed of the American Conference playoff picture, narrowly edged the second-seeded Predators in this week's Power Rankings thanks to a two-game winning streak. Cleveland hosts the Tampa Bay Storm (5-6) this Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on ArenaFootball.com using a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. This week's complete AFL Power Rankings are listed below.
