LA Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake with Emmanuel Boateng brace
Emmanuel Boateng scored twice and the LA Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake 3-1 to advance to the MLS Western Conference semifinals.
Alan
Gordon opened the scoring for the Galaxy early in the first half, when a
cross from the right flank found him wide open at the far post for an
easy finish.
But minutes later, Boateng took Javier Morales down
in the penalty area, allowing Joao Plata to step up and level things
from the penalty spot at 1-1.
Boateng, 22, quickly redeemed
himself with a brilliant individual effort and outside of the foot
finish to beat Nick Rimando in the RSL goal.
And minutes later,
Boateng was at it again, cutting in from the right side, beating his
defender and curling a left-footed shot into the side netting.
The
Galaxy were able to kill off the game in the second half, as Robbie
Keane came off the bench for Gordon and Mike Magee replaced Boateng.
Landon
Donovan, who re-joined the Galaxy late in the season, started the match
for LA, while Steven Gerrard was not named in the team as he continues
to battle back from an injury.
The Galaxy will host the No. 2 seed
Colorado Rapids at StubHub Center on Sunday, Oct. 30 in the first leg
of the the teams' two-legged tie.
