PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul have activated offensive lineman Christian Johnson
from Other League Exempt, the team announced today. The three-year
veteran returns to the team to finish the 2014 AFL season after spending
much of the NFL offseason with the Arizona Cardinals.
"Anytime you get a returning
All-Arena player back on your team, you immediately improve the talent
level of your roster," said head coach Clint Dolezel. "Not only is he a quality athlete on the field, but in the locker room, he is a leader that boosts the morale of the team."
Johnson (6-4, 330, Kentucky) started
in 17-of-18 games with the Soul last season and earned First Team
All-Arena honors. He was also one of the anchors on the offensive line
that allowed the fewest sacks in the AFL for 18 regular season games and
all three postseason games for the Soul in 2012. Johnson played his
rookie season under Dolezel with the Dallas Vigilantes in 2011 where he
allowed only one sack in 15 games.
Prior to coming to the AFL, Johnson
played his college ball at the University of Kentucky. His high-school
career at West Potomac in Alexandria, VA included earning All-Metro
honors for the District of Columbia Area in addition to two All-District
selections.
