CHICAGO – Spokane Shock offensive lineman Sam Tupua has been named the AFL Pulse Player of the Week for his recent philanthropic efforts.
Tupua (6-2, 355, Idaho), who is in
his second season with the Shock, recently participated in the
Greenacres Elementary Fund Run. In the fund run, students run laps to
raise money for their school, while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“The run was fun, we encouraged the kids and they were able to raise money for their school in the process,” Tupua said\
A self-described “big kid,” Tupua has also participated in the Greenacres Field Day and helped lead a Spokane Shock football camp for kids.
“I enjoy being outside and running
around with the kids because it’s a lot of fun and it reminds me of
growing up with my siblings,” Tupua said.
Tupua understands the importance of participating in the Spokane community and is happy to give back whenever he can.
“I was raised knowing that it’s
important to help other people,” Tupua said. “I also know that when I
was a kid I would’ve wanted professional athletes around to positively
influence me.”
Tupua and the Spokane Shock (6-6) will take on the San Jose Sabercats (8-4) in “NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday” action on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET tonight.
The AFL Pulse Player of the Week is
awarded in recognition of commitment to community service. The AFL Pulse
Al Lucas Hero of the Year will be awarded to one player at the end of
the 2014 season
