TAMPA BAY -- The Tampa Bay (2-2) Storm capitalized on New Orleans VooDoo (1-3) miscues to score 21 straight points in the third quarter and pull away to a 42-13 victory in front of 9,122 fans at Amalie Arena on Friday night.
Storm quarterback Jason Boltus tossed six touchdown passes, including three during the Storm's third quarter run. The Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game completed 19-of-29 passes for 224 yards on the game.
During a back and forth first half, the VooDoo got on the board first thanks to a 35-yard field goal by kicker Garrett Lindholm. Tampa Bay responded with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Boltus to Julius Gregory. The VooDoo scored their first touchdown on a five-yard pass from Adam Kennedy to Chris Duvalt, extending Duvalt's career-high in touchdown receptions to seven.
In the second quarter, Storm wide receiver T.T Toliver hauled in his 250th career touchdown pass, coming away with a 34-yard jump ball over Tracy Belton and giving the Storm a 14-10 lead with 11:58 left to play in the half. Unable to find the end zone after the first quarter, New Orleans scored their final points of the game -- a 26-yard field goal -- with just more than five minutes remaining in the second.
Boltus opened the third quarter flurry by hitting Phillip Barnett from nine yards out to cap a seven-play, 40-yard drive. Following four straight incompletions by Adam Kennedy, the Storm wasted no time, going 24 yards in just five plays to score a touchdown on a five-yard pass from Boltus to Barnett. Kendrick Ings got into the action as well, hauling in a 23-yard touchdown pass to close out the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw more of the same, as New Orleans was unable to muster any offense against the Storm's aggressive defensive front. Julius Gregory scored the final touchdown of the game midway through the fourth, reeling in a 33-yard pass from Boltus.
