HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats extended their 4-game win streak beating the BC Lions 19-17 with a late field goal in a defensive showcase.
The Lions offences could only produce 238 total yards while both offences combined for only one touchdown on a night full of great defence.
The Lions travelled East to Hamilton in hopes of earning some momentum after two straight losses but had to take on the hottest team in the CFL, the Tiger-Cats, who had won three games in a row and haven’t lost in their new den.

The Lions were also taking on the Ticats without one of their best players in Andrew Harris, who was placed on the 6-game injured list earlier in the week, and his backup Stefan Logan leaving their vaunted running game to a CFL rookie, Keola Antolin.
Meanwhile the Ticats were just looking to stay in first place with the East beginning to chase them down after three straight wins. The wins had come after the return of Zach Collaros and he came into Week 15 hoping to continue that streak into the last games of the season.
Defence was the story of the first quarter as the Ticats and Lions drove the ball down the field but could not put up points.
That changed with under four-minutes left in the quarter when the Lions drove down the field and looked to Paul McCallum who kicked a 28-yard field goal off the upright and in to go ahead 3-0.
On the ensuing possession by the Ticats, Collaros looked to answer the Lions’ score but saw his first pass picked off by Josh Johnson who ran the ball in from 38-yards out for the game’s first major putting the Lions ahead 10-0.
A big kick return by Brandon Banks set the Ticats up in good field position to start the second quarter.
Hamilton took advantage adding a 39-yard field goal by Justin Medlock to chip away at the lead at the start of the second quarter.
The Lions offence continued to sputter in the second quarter putting together some good drives and holding on to the ball, but not able to put up any more points.
Meanwhile the Ticats went about slowly climbing back into the game after a shock to start things off that put them down very early.
Their next two drives saw Medlock kick two more field goals of 15 and 42 yards as they reduced the deficit to one-point nearing the end of the first half.
Heading into the locker rooms the offences were unable to put up a lot of points as the defences were on display holding the offences to a total of 227 total yards (86 from BC, 164 from Hamilton) and no offensive touchdowns.
Rookie Report Card

With Andrew Harris on the 6-game injured list and Stefan Logan scratched for Week 15 Keola Antonlin led the rushing attack but only earning 22 yards on 9 carries in the Lions loss.

With the Ticats climbing back the Lions entered the second half looking to end their momentum and extend their now thin lead.
They could not do it though as the Lions offence was halted in the first drive of the half giving the ball back to the Ticats who looked ot go ahead.
Started out at their own 7-yard line the Ticats had a long way to go to get ahead of the Lions but some key completions from Collaros to Mossis Madu and Andy Fantuz the Ticats were within stirking distance. Hamilton had to look to Medlock again for his fourth field goal to give the Ticats their first lead going ahead 12-10.
Trading off two stalled drives the Lions and Ticats remained close through the third quarter with the defences remaining the story in the game
Late in the third quarter the Lions began to drive thanks to a big pass from Kevin Glenn to Earnest Jackson that put BC inside the 20-yard line. Within striking distance the Lions pulled out a trick play giving the ball to Emmanuel Arceneaux who unleashed a pass to Shawn Gore in the endzone for the first offensive touchdown of the game.
With the Lions ahead 17-12, the Ticats’ offence could not answer ending the third quarter down by five and hoping to find a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
On their second drive of the quarter the Ticats looked like they were going to find that touchdown putting together a big drive that all started with a big Terrell Sinkfield return. The drive did not result in points but a turnover on downs put the Lions deep in their own side of the field.
With the ball in the shadow of their own goalposts the Lions could not get anything going and a big sack by Justin Hickamn put them inside their five. Instead of punting the ball the Lions conceded a safety putting the Ticats within three.
On the next drive the Ticats, again, did not get any points but, again, put the Lions deep in their own end and forced the Lions to concede another safety to pull within one.
The Ticats drove downfield in the ensuing drive and stalled until a pass interference challenge by Hamilton gave them new life in the drive. Even after the penalty gave the Ticats a new set of down they could not find the endzone with a Mossis Madu running TD called back after his knee went down before crossing the line. The Ticats instead settled for an –yard field goal by Medlock to go ahead 19-17.
The Lions were now down with little time left to find their way back into the lead and, despite having the ball twice in the last two minutes, they could not find the endzone giving the Ticats the comeback win.
The Lions will stay East next week when they head to the nation’s capital while the Ticats begin a stretch of Eastern Conference games against their provincial rivals in Toronto.
