Ducks Edge Stars In OT
Nate Thompson's first goal of the season gave the Ducks a 2-1 overtime win over the Stars.

DALLAS -- Nate Thompson scored 2:30 into overtime and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Friday night.
Thompson tipped a shot by Corey Perry from the top of the left circle past Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen.
Perry scored Anaheim's first goal at 16:45 of the second period to quiet a crowd that booed him every time he touched the puck. Perry leads the NHL with 10 goals in 12 games. Thompson scored his first of the season.
Dallas had only two shots on goal during six power plays, but Antoine Roussel scored the tying goal 3 seconds after Anaheim's last power play expired.
Trevor Daley passed across the ice from the right circle to Roussel. He put the puck past Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen from the left doorstep at 14:33 of the third period.
Lehtonen finished with 22 saves.
Andersen made 21 and improved to 7-1-0 this season. He is 27-6-0 in his career.
On Perry's goal, he skated into the right circle ahead of Daley and shot the puck past Lehtonen just inside the left post. Francois Beauchemin assisted with the teams skating 4 on 4.
Each team killed two penalties in a scoreless first period. One of the best scoring chances came in the final minute when Lehtonen stopped the Jakob Silfverberg on a short-handed breakaway.
Anaheim outshot the Stars 11-8 in the first.
Lehtonen also stopped Devante Smith-Pelly on a second-period power play when he broke through two defenders and skated in on the goalie.
The Ducks broke the scoreless tie 16:45 into the second while each team had a player in the penalty box.
The Stars had only one shot on goal in the second, none on their three power plays. Anaheim had five shots, including two more while short-handed.
Dallas had a chance to tie the game 5 minutes into the third period, but Andersen stopped Jamie Benn from point-blank range in front of the net.
The Stars outshot Anaheim 11-7 in the third.
The teams were meeting for the first time since the Ducks eliminated the Stars in overtime in the sixth game of a first-round playoff series last season.
Roussel drew a team-high 27 penalty minutes in that series.
Dallas has at least a point in every home game this season, but is just 1-0-4.

Game notes

Perry has nine points (four goals, five assists) in the last eight games against the Stars. . Anaheim D Josh Manson made his NHL debut. He's the son of Dave Manson, who played for Dallas and six other teams. Josh put a rebound into the net in the third period but the goal was disallowed because teammate Tim Jackman made incidental contact with Lehtonen. . Another Ducks defenseman, Mark Fistric, played 257 games for the Stars. . Anaheim has only one goal while skating 5 on 5 in the last five games. . Benn and Tyler Seguin both were held off the score sheet after getting points in seven straight games. Dallas' penalty-killing unit has been successful in 14 of 15 opportunities during the last five games.
