Jean-Philipp Chabot gave the Denver Cutthroats a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Arizona Sundogs when he scored 17:35 into the extra period. The win by Denver broke a deadlock and gave the Cutthroats a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.
Denver came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cutthroats trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Arizona's Mike Forney at 1:59 in the second period. Denver knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Steve Kaunisto at 30 seconds in the third period.
Cam Reid was all over the ice for the Cutthroats, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Reid scored the first of his two goals at 10:15 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Arizona. Kyle Fletcher provided the assist. Reid's next tally made the score 3-3 with 7:20 left in the second period. Garett Bembridge picked up the assist.
Denver forced Sundogs' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 42 shots and forcing 37 saves. Adam Brown made eight stops and Andrew Engelage made 29. The Cutthroats got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Denver also got points from Kaunisto, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Denver also got a goal from Aaron MacKenzie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Lee Moffie, Troy Schwab, Robin Soudek, and Mikael Tam, who contributed one each.
The Sundogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Denver power plays. Arizona's offense rang up 43 shots on Denver's net.
The Sundogs were led by David Rutherford, who dished out three assists.
The Cutthroats' Kent Patterson stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Denver ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Arizona totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Sundogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sebastian Geoffrion was ejected from the game.
