Eskimos’ rookie Shakir Bell stood out on Friday night with a game high 18 carries for 144 yards.
Matt Nichols was 18-for-33 with 242 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the win while Henry Burris was 29-for-39 with 252 yards and one interception in the losing effort.
Chris Williams had seven catches for 90 yards for Ottawa but was overshadowed by Kendial Lawrence who had four catches for 92 yards for the Eskimos.
Strong defensive play from the Eskimos and the REDBLACKS as well as torrential downpour kept the first half a low scoring affair.  Neither team was able to score a touchdown and both were forced to settle for field goals in the first two quarters.
Unable to get out of their zone early, the REDBLACKS were forced to take a safety on their first possession to put Edmonton up by two.
On the ensuing possession, the Eskimos looked to pick up where they left off last week with a strong offensive start. They were unable to do so as a pass intended for Cory Watson was intercepted by Jerrell Gavins in the endzone to prevent an Eskimos touchdown.
The Eskimos had another chance for a touchdown on their next drive as they progressed down the field and into the redzone, but were forced to settle for a 23-yard field goal by Grant Shaw.
The quarter ended with the Eskimos up 5-0.  The REDBLACKS have now gone four straight games without a single point in the first quarter.
The REDBLACKS defence continued their strong efforts in the redzone as Nicholas was intercepted again, this time by Jovon Johnson, with 11:12 left in the second quarter.
The Eskimos found themselves in the redzone again upon receiving the ball back, but continued to be stalled by Ottawa and were once again forced to settle for a 22-yard field goal by Shaw with 4:11 remaining in the half.
The REDBLACKS continued to struggle on the offense in the first half thanks to strong defensive play by the Eskimos as John Ojo picked off Burris right before the three-minute warning  But the REDBLACKS were finally able to make a last minute push in the second half to put them up on the board.  A 21-yard play to Brad Sinopoli led to an 18-yard field goal by Delbert Alvarado to end the half at 8-3.
The REDBLACKS continued their momentum into the second half and were able to capitalize on their first possession.  A short drive down the field set up Alvarado to his second field goal of the game.
But the two teams continued to exchange field goals and the Eskimos were able to counter when they received the ball back.  Shaw put up his third field goal of the night from 30 yards out to put the Eskimos up 11-6.

With the win, the Eskimos improve their record to 2-1 while the REDBLACKS stand at 2-2.

The first touchdown of the game would finally arrive courtesy of the Ottawa REDBLACKS.  Ottawa maintained possession down the field and Henry Burris dived over the endzone for a one-yard rushing play to give the REDBLACKS their first lead of the game.  The failed two-point conversion would keep their lead at 12-11.
However, the lead would be short lived.  Just over a minute later, Nichols found Kendial Lawrence breaking down the field and connected with him for a 63-yard touchdown.  The score was Lawerence’s third touchdown in the past two games against the REDBLACKS.
The Eskimos lengthened their lead as Shaw hit his fourth field goal of the evening with 4:11 left in the game to put the Eskimos up 20-12.
The weather appeared to create even more problems as the REDBLACKS fumbled the ball on the ensuing possession and Edmonton recovered.
Shaw continued his dominance and nailed his fifth field goal from 37-yards to put the lead even farther out of reach for the REDBLACKS and ending the game at 23-12.
The REDBLACKS are at home again next week as they face the Calgary Stampeders on July 24 while the Eskimos look to continue their two game winning streak against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on July 25 at Commonwealth Stadium.
