WINNIPEG – Drew Willy threw a pair of touchdown passes as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers topped the BC Lions 23-13 at Investors Group Field on Thursday night.
Darvin Adams had four receptions that totaled 127 yards, including a 56-yard haul for a touchdown in the third quarter. Drew Willy went 17-for-25 and rushed for 72 yards on five attempts in the win.

Meanwhile, Travis Lulay threw three interceptions and finished the game with 211 yards and a touchdown pass.
It was clear that the Lions gameplan from the start was to involve Andrew Harris as much as possible. The running back ended up with 117 yards rushing on 24 attempts and added another 51 yards on four catches. Shawn Gore led all Lions receivers with 57 receiving yards.
In a crucial divisional matchup, the Lions have now dropped two games in a row and sit at 2-3 while the Bombers evened out their record at 3-3.

It didn’t take long for the Lions to score. Lulay and Harris spent over eight minutes on the 95-yard, 14-play opening drive moving BC downfield, including a 3rd-and-1 sneak run from Lulay. Courtney Taylor capped off the series with his first touchdown reception of the year and gave the Lions an early 7-0 lead.
The Bombers went to Paris Cotton early and often but it was Willy who had a 29-yard rush to put Bombers into the Red Zone to open the second quarter. Rookie Justin Veltung then caught his first career touchdown, an 8-yard catch, to tie the game.
Winnipeg appeared to be clear of trouble but a penalty for contacting kicker Richie Leone on a punt attempt gave the ball back to the Lions. That mistake nearly proved costly as a 17-yard run by Harris moved the Lions close to scoring territory until a Sam Hurl interception ended the threat.
An illegal punt by Lirim Hajrullahu let the Lions start near midfield. An offensive pass interference penalty on BC made them force to settle for a field goal and give them a 10-7 they would carry into halftime.
Troy Stoudermire opened up the second half with a great kick return that put the Bombers close to midfield. On the very next play, Willy connected with Darvin Adams on a 56-yard touchdown pass to give the Bombers their first lead of the game.
With just over four minutes in the third quarter, Hajrullahu hit a 19-yard field goal to increase Winnipeg’s lead to 17-10.
On the next possession, Lulay threw his second interception in the game, this one picked off by Johnny Adams to give the football back to the Bombers. However, Winnipeg was unable to take advantage of the turnover and the Lions got the ball back following a sack and a Bombers fake punt that did not work.
In the fourth quarter, Willy continued gaining yards on the ground to move the Bombers downfield but a series of incomplete passes resulted in only a field goal, this one from 21 yards out, to put the Bombers up by 10.

Lulay led the Lions on another drive down into Bombers territory. BC nearly scored a touchdown to cut into the Bombers lead but Demond Washington knocked the pass away from Taylor. Leone then hit a field goal to reduce Winnipeg’s lead to just seven.
That gap would be short-lived as Hajrullahu hit a field goal to put the Bombers back up 23-13.
A roughing the passer penalty call on Jamal Westerman in the closing minutes moved the Lions closer to the endzone but Washington intercepted the pass to end the scoring threat. It would be Lulay’s third turnover of the game.
Next week, the Lions head back home to host the Eskimos on Thursday while the Bo
