The game between the Allen Americans and the Arizona Sundogs
was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Allen emerged with a
5-3 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Alex Lavoie at 13:53 of the third period.
Lavoie had two goals to lead the Americans to victory.
With 34 shots on target during the contest, Allen exceeded the 27.7 shots it averages per game this year.
Allen also got points from Phil Fox, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Gregor Hanson, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Kale Kerbashian, who had two and Trevor Ludwig, Spencer Asuchak, Darryl Bootland, Ross Rouleau, and Jonathan Lessard, who contributed one a piece.
Arizona's offense rang up 38 shots on the Americans' net.
The Sundogs were helped by Paul McIlveen, who had one goal. McIlveen scored on the power play 13:09 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Arizona had gained a power play chance when Daniel Tetrault was whistled for interference. Ryan Gaucher assisted on the tally. Arizona also had goals scored by Bryan Cameron and Ian Schultz, who each put in one. More assists for Arizona came via Kevin Baker, who had two and Dion Campbell and Jordan Clendenning, who each chipped in one.
Mark Guggenberger rejected 35 shots on goal for Allen. The Americans totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Sundogs' Andrew Engelage stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Arizona totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Sundogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrett Clarke was ejected from the game.
