Rapid City had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised
the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Denver Cutthroats. Eric Giosa had a great game for Rapid City, netting two goals. Giosa found the back of the net 19:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City and again while on the power play 12:03 into the second to make the score 3-0 Rapid City.
Rapid City stifled Denver's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rapid City forced the Cutthroats goalie Kent Patterson to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.
Others who scored for Rapid City included Konrad Reeder and Kyle Stroh, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jesse Schultz, Jared Brown, Scott Wray, Justin Faryna, Justin Sawyer, Ryan Palmer, Matthew Larke, and Scott Brannon, who contributed one a piece.
Denver could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Cutthroats average 3.4 goals per game. Denver's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.8 shots per game it averages.
The Cutthroats were led by Aaron MacKenzie, who scored the team's only goal. MacKenzie scored 15:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Rapid City. Vincent Arseneau provided the assist.
Tim Boron recorded 34 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Kent Patterson made 28 saves for Denver on 31 shots. The Cutthroats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors
