The St. Charles Chill tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit,
but the Quad City Mallards would not be denied the victory and hung on
to win, 4-3.
Quad City made the score 4-2 on a goal by Thomas Frazee at 17:06 in the third period, and St. Charles got as close as 4-3 when Steve Makway scored 17:18 into the third period.
The Mallards were led by Frazee, who had one goal and one assist.
Quad
City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St.
Charles power plays. The Mallards kept the Chill's goalie busy
throughout the game, and Linus Lundin
made 33 saves on 37 shots. Quad City's defensemen bolstered the
Mallards' offensive attack, as they bombarded Lundin with 16 shots.
Quad City also got points from Jeff Lee, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Quad City included Mike Stinziani and Jim McKenzie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Quad City came via Tyler Yaworski, Michael Monfredo, Vladimir Nikiforov, and Mike Hellyer, who each chipped in one.
St.
Charles excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in
four chances. The 30 shots that the Chill put on net surpassed St.
Charles' average of 20.5 shots per game this season. The Chill's
defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two
goals.
Kyle OKane also scored for St. Charles. In addition, St. Charles received assists from Steve Anthony, Anthony Perdicaro, Andrew Conboy, Phil Buschbacher, and Jordan Fox, who contributed one a piece.
Quad City's Ty Rimmer
stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Mallards ended with
19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For Quad City,
Gergo Nagy was ejected from the game. St. Charles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
