Missouri holds on for 5-3 win against Arizona

The Missouri Mavericks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Arizona Sundogs on the way to a 5-3 win.
A goal by Andrew Courtney put Missouri up 5-1 in the second period, but Arizona pulled to within two on Shawn Limpright's tally 6:13 into the third period.
The win gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Eric Castonguay had one goal and three assists to lead Missouri. Castonguay scored on the power play 15:25 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Missouri. The Mavericks had taken the advantage when the Sundogs' David Rutherford got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Mike Ramsay provided the assist.
Missouri also got points from Ramsay, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Courtney, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sebastien Thinel, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Missouri included Anders Franzon and Dave Pszenyczny, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Trevor Kell, Matt Stephenson, and Colt King, who each chipped in one.
Missouri was unable to stop Arizona from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sundogs eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Arizona's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game.
The Sundogs were led by Brandon Coccimiglio, who tallied one goal and one assist. Coccimiglio scored 17:10 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Missouri. Mike Forney picked up the assist. In addition, Arizona received assists from Mark Isherwood, Kevin Baker, and Michael Trebish, who contributed one each.
The Mavericks' Shane Owen stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Missouri incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Arizona's starting goalie, Andrew Engelage, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Adam Brown, who stopped one shot. The Sundogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
