Rapid City blows out Quad City, 5-1

Rapid City had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Quad City Mallards.
The win gave Rapid City a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Rapid City's Tim Boron was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Boron will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.
Rapid City stifled Quad City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rapid City kept the Mallards' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ty Rimmer made 27 saves on 32 shots.
Rapid City was led by Scott Brannon, who had one goal and three assists. Brannon scored 8:48 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Rapid City. Scott Wray picked up the assist. Rapid City additionally got points from Wray, who also registered two goals and one assist and Kyle Stroh, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Jesse Schultz also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Winston Day Chief, Konrad Reeder, and Tristin Llewellyn, who each chipped in one.
Quad City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its three power plays.
Quad City also got a goal from Jeff Lee as well. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Darren McMillan and Matt Boyd, who contributed one each.
Rapid City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Mallards incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
