Quad City was led by goalie Thomas Heemskerk, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Heemskerk will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.57.
St. Charles' power play was ineffective against the Mallards' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:48 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
The Quad City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Mallards had been spending in the box. Quad City put just 34 pucks on net, below the usual 42.8 per game the Mallards average. Quad City relied heavily on its defensemen to assist its forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on 15 shots.
The Mallards were helped by Gergo Nagy, who registered one goal. Nagy scored on the power play 5:41 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Quad City had gotten the advantage when the Chill's Tony DeHart was sent off for tripping. Matt Duffy picked up the assist. Quad City also got points from Vladimir Nikiforov, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jeff Lee, who also registered one goal and one assist. Michael Monfredo also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Mike Stinziani, who had two, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who had three, and Darren McMillan, Thomas Frazee, Gabriel Levesque, and Jim McKenzie, who contributed one a piece.
St. Charles forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and three majors for 63 minutes in penalty time. The Chill surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Charles was held below its usual level of production. The Chill put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

The Mallards registered four goals on 12 power play opportunities. For Quad City, Tyler Yaworski was ejected from the game. Mathieu Corbiel made 28 saves for St. Charles on 34 shots. The Chill ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Greg Brown was ejected from the game.
