Rapid City uses shootout to best Denver, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Jared Brown scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (1-0 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats.
The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Rapid City overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rapid City was down 1-0 after a power play goal by Denver's Steve Kaunisto at 35 seconds in the second period. Rapid City tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Jesse Schultz at 6:24 in the third period.
By firing 37 shots on goal, Rapid City exceeded the 29.1 shots it averages per game this year.
Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Konrad Reeder and Sean Erickson, who contributed one a piece.
The Cutthroats relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Daniel Barczuk, Garrett Bembridge and Robin Soudek took 13 of the team's 25 shots.
In addition, Denver received assists from Troy Schwab, who had one.
Tim Boron recorded 24 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Kent Patterson made 35 saves for Denver on 36 shots. The Cutthroats totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
