Tomas Klempa netted the deciding goal for the Wichita Thunder in the shootout as Thunder prevailed over the Arizona Sundogs, 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. Arizona's shootout goal was scored by Johan Ryd. In addition to the clincher, Wichita got a shootout goal from Matt Summers. The Thunder overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wichita was down 3-1 after a goal by the Sundogs' Kevin Baker at 3:04 in the second period. The Thunder tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jon Booras at 18:46 in the second period.
Wichita put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.7 it averages per game.
Wichita also got points from Mike Wilson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Jared Walker as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Andrew Martens, who had two and Jesse Dudas, Nick McParland, and RG Flath, who contributed one a piece.
The 28 shots that Arizona put on net surpassed the Sundogs' average of 20.7 shots per game this season.
Arizona was led by Justin Pender, who had one goal and one assist. Pender scored 19:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Dion Campbell also scored for Arizona. More assists for Arizona came via Mark Isherwood, Jason Morgan, and Andrew Engelage, who each chipped in one.
The Thunder took out David Brown after he had made 14 saves and installed Taylor Nelson in goal, where he finished with 11 saves and the win. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Sundogs' Engelage stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Arizona incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Sundogs, Matt McCready was ejected from the game.
