was all over the ice for the Arizona Sundogs, as he tallied two goals
and one assist in Arizona's 6-3 win over the Wichita Thunder. Rutherford scored at 27 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona and again while 2:59 into the third to make the score 4-3 Arizona. The Sundogs stifled Wichita's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Arizona bested its season scoring average. The Sundogs average 2.7 goals per game. Arizona relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Kevin Baker, Rutherford and Brandon Coccimiglio took 13 of the team's 25 shots.
Arizona also got points from Coccimiglio, who also racked up two goals and one assist. More assists for Arizona came via Garrett Clarke, Bryan Cameron, Jordan Clendenning, Ian Schultz, Paul McIlveen, and Andrew Engelage, who each chipped in one.
The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.8 shots per game they average.
Wichita was led by Tomas Klempa, who finished with two goals. Klempa scored the first of his two goals at 14:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matt Summers provided the assist. Klempa's next tally made the score 3-2 Arizona with 12:28 left in the second period. Summers assisted on the tally. Wichita also got a goal from Matt Robinson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jesse Dudas, who had two and Jon Madden and Taylor Nelson, who contributed one a piece.
Andrew Engelage made 28 saves for the Sundogs on 31 shots. Arizona incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nelson rejected 19 shots on goal for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
