» Preview: Ottawa, Calgary aim for win #5
Eric Rogers led in the receiving category with five catches for 92 yards and one touchdown while Matt Walter rushed for 41 yards on 10 carries for the victorious Stampeders.
Henry Burris finished the night 7-for-17 with 114 yards through two quarters.
The Stampeders continued to prove their dominance at home this season with all five of their wins taking place in front of their home crowd while Ottawa proved to be their own worst enemy in the match as their first three turnovers lead to 21 points for the opposition.
Calgary got its first break of the game when they punted the ball back to Ottawa on a third down, but unable to gain control, the REDBLACKS fumbled and the ball and was recovered by thirteen-year veteran Randy Chevrier. The big defensive play led to Mitchell running into the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown. Mitchell then connected with Tory Harrison on the two point conversion to put Calgary up 8-0.
But Ottawa was quick to respond, as Greg Ellingson made a highlight reel, one handed catch for a 24-yard gain on the ensuing possession to move into field goal range.  Ottawa would settle for a 31-yard field goal by Chris Milo to cut the lead.
Calgary received the ball back to begin the second quarter and made fast work of getting down the field. Just three plays into the drive, Mitchell found Joe West for a 37-yard pass, just short of the endzone and putting the Stamps at the one yard line.  Mitchell capped off the impressive drive by rushing in for the touchdown and giving Calgary a 15-3 lead.
Turnovers continued to be a burden for the REDBLACKS as the half continued. A punt return back to Ottawa took an awkward bounce and once again the REDBLACKS were unable to control the ball.  Adam Berger pounced on the fumble to give the Stampeders possession at the Ottawa 22 yard line.  On the next play, Mitchell connected with West for Calgary’s third touchdown of the game and a 21-3 lead.
An Ottawa three and out would put the ball back in the hands of the Stampeders and set up Rene Paredes for a 22-yard field goal.
But the Stamps weren’t done their first half dominance yet. Calgary received the ball back with 0:46 left on the clock and used each second sparingly. Mitchell and Rogers took over the drive, first connecting for a 26-yard pass and then for a touchdown with three seconds to spare.
The Stampeders defence was dominant in shutting down Ottawa’s rushing game in the first half, holding the REDBLACKS to only four yards on the ground and six first downs.
Bye Week Advantage

Both teams entered the Week 5 rematch looking for their fifth win of the season. With the victory, Calgary has not lost a game coming off of a bye week under head coach John Hufnagel.
Ottawa tried to shake up its offence in the second half, choosing to place Thomas DeMarco at quarterback. However, their turnover woes continued as the REDBLACKS fumbled for the third time on a punt return midway through the third quarter, recovered by Joe Burnett, to set up the Stamps in the red zone. Matt Walter rushed six yards into the end zone to increase Calgary’s commanding lead to 41-3.
Drew Tate took over quarterback duties from Mitchell midway through the third quarter. The game saw both teams use three different quarterbacks.
Paredes added two more field goals in the fourth quarter from 34 and 36 yards out. The later was the result of an interception by Fred Bennett and Ottawa’s fourth turnover of the game.
The Stampeders will travel to Mosaic Stadium to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Aug. 22 while the REDBLACKS are also on the road and will visit the Toronto Argonauts on Aug. 23.
