HAMILTON -- Saturday night was the 2015 version of Luke Tasker’s coming out party.
Tasker, the son of former NFL All-Pro Steve Tasker, gained 100 yards receiving with two touchdown receptions in a deciding 52-22 Ticats victory. With this win, Hamilton still remains undefeated at Tim Hortons Field.
Ticats quarterback Zach Collaros was extremely efficient in this contest, completing 19 of 23 passes for 290 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Arguably the fastest man in the CFL, Brandon Banks, was a difference-maker once again, catching a 44-yard touchdown pass while also returning a punt for a touchdown.
Hamilton scored 24 unanswered to begin the game and never looked back.
A swing pass and a sweep play to Terrell Sinkfield Jr. put the Tiger-Cats in plus territory quickly to open the first quarter. Shortly after, Collaros hit Banks underneath who broke two tackles on a miraculous effort, and then ran all the way to end zone for a 44-yard touchdown. This capped a four-play, 76-yard drive.
The Ticats were in tough against the CFL’s leading rusher Andrew Harris, but with the Tim Hortons Field faithful behind them, defensive tackle Ted Laurent stripped Harris of the football before defensive end Eric Norwood returned it all the way for the score giving Hamilton an early 14-0 lead. Norwood was clearly fired up for this Saturday night affair as he also contributed with a sack.

After being injured early in the season, Tasker caught a beautiful back-shoulder pass from Collaros for 25 yards down the field. Without Andy Fantuz or Bakari Grant in this game, Tasker was relied upon heavily, especially on second down due to his sure hands.
Collaros and company didn’t let up as he found Tiquan Underwood deep over the middle for a long touchdown heave. Hamilton then forced another fumble thanks to Norwood to give the Ticats a chance to put things away early in the second quarter. This resulted in a Justin Medlock field-goal to make it a 24-0 game early on for Hamilton.
The Hamilton front four was just too much for BC’s offensive line as Justin Hickman added in another crucial sack. On the ensuing punt, Banks returned it all the way to the house to make it a 31-1 Ticat lead. One does not simply win a foot-race with Banks.
Lulay was under constant pressure all game, getting sacked by Simoni Lawrence late in the first half. However, Lulay was finally able to get the Lions offence going late in the second quarter as he connected on a deep bomb for 50 yards with Manny Arceneaux to put them first and goal before Lulay found the Hamilton-native Austin Collie for the touchdown.
Lions kicker Richie Leone added a late field-goal to make it a 31-10 game heading into the half.
The Lions were unable to continue their momentum they had at the end of the first half, as Lulay was picked on the first drive of the third quarter by Courtney Stephen, leading to a touchdown reception by Tasker. Tasker led Hamilton in receiving yards last year.
A defensive battle broke out in the third quarter, until Collaros hooked up with Tasker for 45 yards down the field. Collaros went right back to the sure-handed Tasker who made a leaping catch for his second touchdown of the game.
The onslaught continued late in the third quarter when Ticat defensive back Erik Harris picked off a Lulay pass attempt and then returned it all the way to the house for the score to make it a fifty-burger for Hamilton. This would be Lulay’s last play of the game, as former Washington Redskin John Beck took over from here on out.
Beck lead the Lions to late score with a touchdown pass to Collie although it wouldn’t be enough in this contest.
The 5-2 Tiger-Cats will head to Edmonton to face the Eskimos on Friday Night Football while the 3-4 BC Lions will travel home to take on Montreal on Thursday night as they look to get back to .500.
