Jason Morgan
scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Arizona Sundogs picked
up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats. The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Arizona also got a shootout goal from Morgan. The Sundogs put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.2 they average per game.
Arizona was helped by Brandon Coccimiglio, who tallied one goal. Coccimiglio scored on the power play 12:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Sundogs had taken the advantage when Denver's Sean Zimmerman got sent off for roughing. Bryan Cameron picked up the assist. Arizona additionally got points from Kevin Baker, who also registered one goal and one assist.
The Cutthroats' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Denver finished with 20 penalty minutes.
The Cutthroats were led by Garett Bembridge, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bembridge scored 2:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver. Steve Kaunisto assisted on the tally. Troy Schwab also scored for Denver. More assists for Denver came via Vincent Arseneau and Daniel Barczuk, who contributed one each.
Andrew Engelage rejected 23 shots on goal for Arizona. The Sundogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kent Patterson recorded 36 saves for Denver. The Cutthroats registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
