The Quad City Mallards and the Missouri Mavericks were evenly
matched throughout their contest, but Quad City made the most of its
opportunities and won, 5-3. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jeff Lee secured the win for the Mallards with a goal in the third period.
Quad City got the win on the strength of a great game by Mike Stinziani, who had one goal and two assists. Stinziani scored short handed 8:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. The Mallards were on a disadvantage when Nick Grasso went off the ice for hooking.
Others who scored for Quad City included Thomas Frazee, Justin Fox, and Matt Boyd, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Vladimir Nikiforov, who had three and Tyler Yaworski and Michael Monfredo, who each chipped in one.
Missouri's offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.0 shots per game it averages.
The Mavericks were helped by Andrew Courtney, who finished with one goal. Courtney scored 10:13 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Dave Pszenyczny assisted on the tally. Missouri additionally got points from Obi Aduba, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mike Ramsay also scored for Missouri. More assists for Missouri came via Trevor Kell, who had two and Eric Castonguay and Mathieu Gagnon, who contributed one each.
Thomas Heemskerk rejected 25 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Missouri's Erno Suomalainen stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Mavericks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
