Denver rolls over Rapid City, 7-1

The Denver Cutthroats had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over Rapid City.
Denver was led by goalie John Griggs, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Griggs will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.5 entering the contest.
The Cutthroats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Denver outdid its season average for goals scored. The Cutthroats have scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign.
Denver was helped by Garett Bembridge, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Bembridge scored on the power play 9:13 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Denver. The Cutthroats earned a power play opportunity when Justin Faryna was put in the box for elbowing. Jean-Philipp Chabot picked up the assist. Denver also got points from Troy Schwab, who also registered one goal and two assists and AJ Gale, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Denver included Vincent Arseneau, Daniel Barczuk, and Daniel Amesbury, who scored one goal each. In addition, Denver received assists from Mikael Tam, who had four and Lee Moffie and Steve Kaunisto, who each chipped in one.
Rapid City could not produce up to it normal offensive output. Rapid City puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The defense for Rapid City played an important role offensively, racking up 19 shots on goal. Rapid City's offense rang up 35 shots on Denver's net.
Rapid City was led by Justin Sawyer, who scored the team's only goal. Sawyer scored 11:48 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Denver. Eric Giosa assisted on the tally.
The Cutthroats totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Keaton Hartigan rejected 21 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
