Rapid City had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-0 win over the Tulsa Oilers. Rapid City was sparked by Kevin Harvey, who racked up one goal and one assist. Harvey scored 4:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Winston Day Chief picked up the assist.
Rapid City's defensive play was more effective than usual against Tulsa. Rapid City gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. Rapid City's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 11 power play opportunities.
Rapid City also got points from Day Chief, who also registered one goal and two assists. Rapid City also had goals scored by Jesse Schultz, Jared Brown, and Anthony Perdicaro, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Riley Weselowski, Brett Kostolansky, Justin Faryna, and Eric Giosa, who contributed one a piece.
The Oilers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Oilers stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Tulsa was held below its usual level of production. The Oilers average 3.4 goals per game.
Tulsa was led by Drew Fisher, who took four shots.
Tim Boron rejected 22 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Rapid City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Perdicaro was ejected from the game. Shane Madolora took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Brad Fogal who made nine saves. The Oilers registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
